Volkswagen will close its plants in the Mexican states of Puebla and Guanajuato due to the coronavirus pandemic until further notice. This is done for reasons of health protection, said the Mexico division of the Wolfsburg car maker.
Volkswagen had previously announced that it would initially shut down most of its German and European plants for two to three weeks. It is foreseeable that the supply chains will break due to the virus spread.
Volkswagen could soon produce medical technology such as ventilators instead of cars. According to the concert, this is about components that can be produced with 3D printers from plastic parts or prototype production. Locations outside the Federal Republic of Germany would also be considered for production.
